Your shortlist is local by default

PetNames can be used without an account. This page distinguishes browser storage, generator requests, page-view analytics, and actions you choose to take outside the site.

  • No account is required
  • Saved names use browser local storage
  • Entered and saved names are excluded from analytics properties

Saved names stay in your browser

The saved-names feature uses local storage in your browser. A saved entry can contain the name, animal, displayed meaning, and the time it was saved. The current site does not require an account or send that shortlist to a shared shortlist database.

You can remove individual names, clear the full list from the saved-names panel, or clear site data through your browser settings. Local data may not appear on another browser or device.

Generator requests

The default generator works from the local curated collection. If you turn on Creative Mode, the site sends the selected animal, gender preference, style, length, and starting letter to its generation endpoint. The local saved-name list is not included in that request.

The current generator controls do not ask you to type a person's or pet's name. Do not attempt to place personal or confidential information into service requests or URLs.

Generation requests are rate-limited at the hosting edge by IP address, with an additional short-lived in-process counter as defence in depth. Those operational counters are not added to product analytics events.

Privacy-conscious product analytics

PetNames includes Vercel Web Analytics for page views and selected product actions such as starting or completing the generator, saving or removing a name, copying a result, using fallback results, and completing the fit test or quiz. These events include the route, an anonymous per-tab session identifier, categorical filters, result source, and aggregate counts.

Entered candidate names, household names, saved names, meanings, and shortlist contents are not added to analytics event properties. The analytics provider may process technical visit information under its own terms; browser privacy controls and content blockers may limit requests.

External links and device features

Some pages link to other websites. Those services set their own privacy practices once you follow the link. Copy and share actions can also hand content to your device clipboard, share sheet, or another app that you choose.

A shared quiz link contains an encoded copy of the seven selected answer IDs and the pet type so the site can recompute the same result. It does not contain a pet name, household name, account ID, or free-text answer. Anyone with that link can decode or open those selections.

Review the destination and your device permissions before sending or publishing a shortlist outside PetNames.

Questions and policy changes

PetNames does not currently publish a monitored privacy inbox or contact form. We state that plainly rather than listing an address that may not be read. The corrections page will show a verified public route when one becomes available.

This page should be updated when collection, account, sharing, analytics, or contact behavior changes materially.
